Commercial trucking coverage

Cover the load, keep the customer.

Motor truck cargo insurance pays for freight that is lost, stolen or damaged while in your care. Brokers and shippers routinely require a certificate showing cargo limits before they tender a load, so the right limit is as much a sales tool as a safety net.

What it covers

Cargo Insurance, in plain terms.

  • Loss or damage to freight in transit, in your truck or at a terminal
  • Limits that match what you haul: $100,000 is the common broker requirement; higher for high-value freight
  • Endorsements for refrigeration breakdown, debris removal, and earned freight
  • Certificates issued when a broker needs one

Who needs it

For-hire carriers hauling general freight, reefer, or specialty loads; anyone who needs a cargo certificate to get dispatched.

Questions

Is cargo insurance required by law?

For most general freight there is no federal cargo minimum, but nearly every broker and shipper requires it in their carrier agreement, usually at $100,000. Household goods carriers do have a federal requirement.

Are there commodities cargo policies exclude?

Commonly excluded or limited commodities include live animals, jewelry, art, tobacco, and electronics. Tell us what you haul and we will quote the right form.
